Elizabethtown, Kentucky was the site of some exciting MMA action on Saturday night, as several hundred fight fans were on hand to take in Hardrock MMA 7 “Jealousy is Earned”. With 18 MMA fights in all, and 4 separate title fights, the evening certainly was not lacking for action.

In the evening’s featured bout, undefeated Louisville fighter Lorenz Larkin (9-0) took on the defending champion Derek Grace (12-2) for the Hardrock MMA heavyweight title. This fight went all five rounds. In the first three rounds, the fighters primarily exchanged leg kicks, with Larkin capitalizing on landed strikes late in the first and third rounds. Larkin seized firm control of the fight in the fourth round, taking the fight to the ground and working some effective ground and pound from full mount. Ring of Rage Recap! Good Promotion.

February 11th, 2009 by TammyTV

Thanks for the article!!!
Story by Fightjunky (www.myspace.com/fightjunky)

Louisville’s Expo Five entertainment hall played host on February 7, 2009, to Ring of Rage MMA’s “Chaos” fight card. An enthusiastic crowd was in attendance to take in an exhibition submission grappling match and nine MMA fights, including two title showdowns at the 145 and 155 weight divisions. In addition, the dynamic film crew of Tammy TV (watchtammytv.com) was on hand to record fighter interviews, take pictures, and shoot video of the fights for an upcoming DVD of the event.

In the headline 145-pound title fight, undefeated fighters Chris Bennett (6-0) and Kenny Gordon (7-0) squared off. Almost immediately, Gordon caught Bennett’s leg and picked him up for a big slam. From there Gordon made short work of Bennett, finishing him with strikes for a TKO stoppage early in the first round.

In the other title fight of the evening, “Hollywood” Brandon Hampton defeated Rocky Bowman in an odd and unfortunately anti-climactic finish. After an early exchange, one of Bowman’s kicks inadvertently found Hampton’s groin, and Hampton was given five minutes to recover. However, during that period, the cageside doctor inspected a nasty cut Bowman had sustained over his eye and determined that Bowman could not continue, giving Hampton the first-round victory by doctor stoppage.

In what fans voted as the best undercard fight of the night, Travis Stotts prevailed against David Coghlin in a bloody three-round slugfest. While neither fighter could finish the fight while on their feet, Stotts secured a submission victory in the third round when he was able to pull Coghlin into guard and latch on a guillotine choke.

In other undercard fights:

After a moment of circling and sizing each other up, Lorenz Larkin landed a couple of shots on Justin Kuhnert and then was able to move in to submit Kuhnert with a first-round guillotine choke.

David Smith prevailed against R.J. Addessa in the first round, twice gaining takedowns into full mount, and securing a choke the second time.

Justin Houk earned a TKO victory against Carlton Little in the second round of their fight. Houk largely controlled position in the first round and landed the better strikes. Little swung wildly to open the second round but then clearly gassed, and Houk finished him with strikes.

After a first round of back-and-forth grappling action, Carl Purdy gained back control against Charles Bricherner early in the second round and submitted him with a rear naked choke.

Jacob Larter earned a first-round TKO victory against John Armstrong, taking Armstrong down and finishing him off quickly with strikes.

Randy Jones defeated Nate Meyer by third-round TKO, controlling the action on the ground for the first two rounds before eventually finishing Meyer from side control in the third.

The night began with an exhibition submission grappling match between Cody Gableman and Dennis Swift, both of whom showed impressive wrestling and grappling ability considering they are both only 14 years old.

Pictures and video from this event will be available shortly at watchtammytv.com. For more information on Tammy TV, visit twitter.com/TammyTV or www.myspace.com/WatchTammyTV. For more information on the Ring of Rage promotion, visit www.ringofrage.com.
